Explanation / Answer

Active study is the process when different activities is used to learn more easily. The learning experience can be more effective using reading, listening, acting, solving problems; engaging many senses at once. Active learning helps us memorize faster and for longer, to understand a problem quickly and solve it. Passive learning on the otherhand is just using one of the learning at once.

Some of the common processes used for active learning includes:

I can describe myself as very patient. I have good concentration and do not get easily distracted. This allows me to study attentively. I have also good time management skill, so I distribute my time to study effectively. Studying for one hour continuously and then taking a break of 5-10 minutes, help me to freshen up and avoid of getting bored. I also have drawing skill so I try to draw while studying whenever possible. This helps me to memorize difficult topics easily.

I am very social and friendly. I always try to engage my friend in study session. We have a discussion group. We study together and make mock test questions for each other. This helps us to strengthen our base for a subject.

Engaging the senses together: When I study I read out loud the words. Only visualizing is not an effective way to memorize. As I am using both visual and auditory senses together the brain is getting more information and forming very active connections to memorize better. As I said I draw diagrams along with reading. Creating a pictures or flowcharts in my own way helps me to grip the topic better. Whenever possible I use videos and images available about the text. These create a better understanding of what I am learning.

Discussion: As we have a discussion group among friends we utilize it effectively. Discussion about the topic we are learning, self questioning and analizing our problems makes us better learner. We find what is our strengths and weaknesses, we help each other to be better. We ask random questions to each other. We share our notes. This mutual learning is always better than studying alone.

Solving Problems: At the end of a study topic I try to solve available problems with the course. I also try to solve mock tests, papers available online. Solving problems helps me to fill up the gaps during my study.

The active learning definitely helped my learning experience. In past only reading to prepare my course was never effective; writing papers were difficult, exam grades were not satisfactory. It was difficult to memorize an old topic that I had studied. But active learning made me a better learner. I have improved my memory which reflects on my tests and grades. Now I can learn faster, can memorize better and longer. I can easily understand a difficult topic. My vocabulary has improved and writing skills have matured. I can finish my assignments within deadline.

So in conclusion active study is definitely a better strategy for learning. Involving different activities with study session will make learning experience fun and effective.
