Epithelial tissue gives rise to most cancers because it is exposed to the environment and is constantly dividing more rapidly than other tissue types. Both of these factors make the epithelial tissue more prone to damage and overcoming growth control mechanisms. Epithelial tissue are most often in contact with environmental pollutants such as ultraviolet rays and carconogens. This poses a risk of mutations in the DNA which might lead to cancer.
