Explanation / Answer

Answer

Pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain. It is known as master gland beacause it regulates the secretion of all the other endocrine glands. There are various hormones secreted by pituitary gland.

1) Growth hormone is secreted from pituitary gland specifically the anterior portion. It regulates normal growth in the body tissues. The hormone acts upon liver. It helps in secretion of IGF-I (Insulin-like growth factor) that inturn stimulate chndrocytes production. Over effect is growth of bone tissue.

2) Oversecretion of growth hormone will lead to excessive growth in the body. It may arise the conditions called Gigantism and acromegaly.
Under-secretion of growth hormone leads to lack of bone and tissue growth. It arises the condition called dwarfism.

3) Effect of Growth hormone levels in body.
