She understood that the reason for her son's classmates lyme disease is due to increased population of deer ticks in her state. Lyme disease is only spread through the bite of ticks infected with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and it is not transmitted from person-to-person, children who spend lot of time outdoors which have heavily wooded areas are especially at risk for deer ticks.
