Multi-media instruction can invoke multi-tasking in learners on voluntary and involuntary levels. Several information channels may be in operation and may be activated consciously or unconsciously. During learning, one or more channels may be utilizing the maximum cognitive resources available. Under those conditions, cross-channel interference may be more likely. In light of the phenomena of voluntary and involuntary initiation of cognitive tasks by multi-media presentations are multi- or mono-media instructional materials more efficacious to learners? Why? Explanation / Answer

Technological developments in the 20th and 21st centuries have impacted all spheres of life such as economic, social, political and personal. Almost all the fields such as medicine, history, arts etc. have incorporated technology to spearhead their progress and the field of education is no exception. Recent times have facilitated more multimedia classrooms and lessons delivered through multiple channels.
In my opinion, people learn better through multimedia than through the traditional mono media classes where just a print out is often the medium. One of the most important factors is that the multimedia classes impact more than one sense. Students look for variety which is provided through pictures, audios, videos etc. Multimedia classes also keep the students interesting because there would be mixed ability and mixed interested students whose need will be taken care of. Finally, the students are becoming more technology savvy, so using technology through multimedia will make the delivery more interesting and bring more participation.
