According to our text, scientists have discovered (based on equipment like the fMRI) that "Babies are thinking long before they talk."

Should these findings have an impact on our behavior with regard to our own personal behavior, interactions with others or our interaction with babies?

How would you go about explaining to parents, family members and care givers the importance of these findings?

Can you name a few examples of behaviors that have an impact on the development of babies that caregivers may not automatically recognize?

Two Years"

Explanation / Answer

Answer.

The core knowledge, attitudes, and practices along with contextual factors access to social and economic resources affect parenting styles in a way that would ultimately have either positive or negative consequences on children’s cognitive and emotional development.

Children’s thinking is enhanced by early positive and supportive interactions with parents and other caregivers. the finding by scientists based on fMRI scans of infants brain functioning before they begin actual speech can thus help create awareness about the need for a stimulating and nurturing environment especially during the formative years. Children need to be cared for in a way that promotes their ability to thrive and ensures their survival and safety needs. Moreover, by understanding the activation of complex cognitive processes such as thinking during infancy, Parents and other caregivers can be made to realise that they are essential resources for children in managing emotional arousal, coping, and managing behavior. Thus, parent’s behaviour and practices such as providing positive affirmations, conveying love and respect and engendering a sense of security which would ultimately help the infant in actively producing proverbial sounds, then words and gradually learn simple sentences to communicate with others and gradually become comfortable in communicating and developing their social behaviour.
