Question
Consider a DASH system for which there are N video version (at N different rates and qualities) and N audio versions (at N different rates and versions). Suppose we want to allow the player to choose at any time any of the N video versions and any of the N audio versions. If we create files so that the audio is mixed in with the video, so the server sends only one media stream at any given time, how many files will the server need to store (each a different URL)? If the server instead sends the audio and video streams separately and has the client synchronize the streams, how many files will the server need to store?
Explanation / Answer
Answer for the case 1:
Since Audio is mixed with the Video . We have N*N combination of Audio Video. So we will need to have N*N files in the server.
Case 2:
If the Server sends audion and video seperately we just need to have 2*N files at the server.
Why ?
There is some thing called as media presentation description (MPD) describes segment information (timing, URL , media characteristics such as video and bit rates) . Using which the DASH client on the client side can synchronise the Audio and video.
So there is no overhead of storing N*N files in the server .
Hope it answers your query.
Thank you
