Question

D.) It is Friday morning, and a client from the rehab (alcohol/drug) center where you work is about to be successfully discharged from the residential care program. They were not on your caseload but you know this person well from case staffings and having seen the substantial progress they have made during their stay in the center. However, the group home they were planning to move into will not accept them until Monday. So this individual asks if they can stay at your detached guest house for the weekend, then move in to their group home by Monday. They have no family and all former friends are still heavy drug users, thus not a suitable environment. What would you do and why? Please explain with specific details.

Explanation / Answer

In such a situation I will allow the client to stay at my detached guest house for the weekend and then move into their group home by Monday because as he has no family it will not be a good idea to leave him alone because all his friends are still heavy drug users and if he gets in contact with them at this point of time then he may again get addicted to the substance and the time spend in the rehab will go in vain. In order to help him out in this situation I will allow him to stay at my detached guesthouse for the weekend so that the efforts to make him get rid of the addiction does not go in vain.
