Question
Global Power Tools has made the news again. According to OSHA officials, the company ignored both the safety officials who had studied its operation and employees who complained of work-related wrist and back injuries. OSHA has proposed $1.4 million in fines and also said the Global Power Tools has failed to accurately report and record employee injuries and illnesses.
The proposed fines came after an OSHA investigation found a high rate of back and wrist injuries among the company's 570 power tools-division employees. In particular, employees were found to be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, a wrist ailment caused by repetitive motion that injures nerve endings in the wrist and hand. OSHA said that in 26 of 50 cases of carpal syndrome, employees underwent surgery.
Although Global Power Tools has developed a tracking system of all injuries, issues, and accidents, it appears as though many complaints are being ignored or not reported. What do you suggest to fix these issues?
Explanation / Answer
As per the OSHA officials it has obtained that Global Power reports have not been fully covered the injuries, issues, and accidents to the employees which have occurred to them. OSHA investigation has obtained several high rates of back and wrist injuries as compared to the total report provided by the Global Power.
To fix this issue, Global Power should re-investigate the issues of the injuries occurred and should give the exact figure for their employees who got back and wrist injuries, and suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. The Global Power should do the re-investigation and find the exact match of the total reports that the number of issues and accidents occurred as per the OSHA reports. The reports are required to be exactly matched with OSHA, so that the further fines can be equally obtained from Global Power by its employees, also they can get the support for the ailment process and as the injuries occurred is in maximum work related process the entire liability comes under Global Power to provide the equal compensation in form of fine to the injuries. In this way the issues can be resolved, as this is the employer’s related accident, to ease the process and to fix the issue Global Power should provide the exact copy of the report which should tally with OSHA and provide all supports to make the process normal.
