Question

A student is taking a true-false test and quessing when he doesnt know the answer. we are going to compute a score by subtracting a percentage of the number of incorrect answers from the number of correct answers. That is, for some number y, the students corrected score will be:

(number of correct answers) - y (number of incorrect answers)

When we convert this "corrected score" to a percentage scre, we want its expected value to be the percentage of the material being tested that the student knows. How can we do this?

please answer in detail if possible.

Explanation / Answer

let the student knows a answers and dont know b answers

so he guesses and on an average b/2 of guessed are correct and b/2 are wrong..

so a+b/2 correct and b/2 wrong

so by simply substracting a+b/2 - b/2 we''l get numbr of correct answers he actually knows..

so y=1
