Part A: Leadership (40 marks)
Read the case study “Leading with Integrity: Quova’s Marie Alexander”, and answer the following three questions.
“Leading with Integrity: Quova’s Marie Alexander”
What is the difference between leadership and management? Is Marie Alexander both a manager and a leader? Explain why or why not. (10 marks)
Marie Alexander believes that leadership is behavioural. How are behavioural theories of leadership different from trait theories? Of the three leadership styles from the University of Iowa studies (see page 189 of your textbook), would you consider Marie Alexander to be an autocratic, democratic or laissez-faire leader? You have learned about the challenges of managing in a team environment. Now, it is time to apply your knowledge to your real-world experiences.
Reflect upon a time when you were involved in a team project. (It could have been in a work team, or in a more personal capacity, such as a church group, or a student, sports, volunteer or family team. How closely did your team’s development parallel the five stages of team development outlined in Chapter 10? (20 marks)

In my perspective definition of leadership changes according to the situation available to tackle. Every time you have to go through a challenging situation definition of leadership moulds according to that specific incident and provide support and thinking ability with the specific task. By having an ability to mould yourself according to the market is a very necessary leadership quality.
My self leadership is being adaptable at all the time. You have to be prepared for each and every situation which is being faced or which has to directly related with you. I personally use this adaptive leadership style to obtain the maximum efficiency out of the given tasks. My having an adaptive leadership style I can easily determine between the most usable and least usable things and adaptor myself according to the situation which directly benefits the overall efficiency as well as productivity of my leadership.
Leadership is one of the main parts in creating a strategy.In other words leaders are the strategic creator for an organisation . Weather perfect leadership skill one can easily create and strategy which is more effective and productive for a specific organisation. Leadership skills are very much required to create each and every strategy, which is related to the betterment of the organisations and provide a very basic instruction support to build a strategy. Leadership define how the strategy is going to work and instruct the team accordingly to create and formulate a strategy which is more efficient. Without a proper leadership strategic formulation is not possible. Lacking leadership that strategy formulation would go into a wrong direction and formulated strategy would be inefficient and incomplete.
Management can be defined as a structured and organised set of instruction which an organisation has to follow to get the most out of any given task or events. Management helps to maintain organisational structure and provides a streamline interface for the workplace.
Some basic differences between the leadership and management are as follows.
• Basic goals
Management is required to run an organisation in a structured way, where leadership help the organisation to achieve multiple goals which can be long term as well as the short term goals with the proper structured instructions.
• Providing support
In a Healthcare organisation, planning provides a basic structural support to all the employees. Planning provides an idea of roles and goals of their jobs but does not describe how to achieve it.
Leadership works on the basis of planning and achieve the goal set by plant management, step by step. Leadership provide motivational as well as positive attitude of the employees.
• Managing
Managing can be seen as the most essential part for an organisation. Management is responsible for managing everything inside the organisation from the medications to the equipment and also the doctoral structure.Leadership is needed to manage all these things efficiently in a specific time. Leadership provides the basic instruction on how to manage correctly and provide support to all the employees and their teams.
• Improving efficiency
Both of the systems, planning as well as leadership are important for improving the efficiency of the organisation but management alone cannot do it. For a proper Improvement in efficiency leadership is very much required to correctly execute all the plant steps in the management.
Leadership cannot be written on paper but management can be done on papers hence leadership can be considered as an art which helps in controlling in management steps to improve the overall efficiency and so many different aspects of a Healthcare organisation.
