At the present time, each supervisor is responsible for orienting new employees on their first day on the job . The human resources manger apparently is attempting to "build an empire" by trying to assume greater control over certain functions. As a supervisor, you believe you can provide excellent orientation for your new employees. How can you convince the executive vice president, The person to whom the human resource s manager reports, that the present system for orienting new employees should be maintained?

In most of the organizations, new employees or new joiners are first made to report the HR department. After the appointment letter signing procedures, the employees are briefed aabout the company by the HR department employees. The HR department is the only department which keeps track of all other departments. They are aware of all the job description and specifications as they are the one who finalized the advertisements for job. They are aware about the employees strength, trainings provided, performance appraisal, compensation and all labour related issues. They have an overall idea about the entire organization. If the HR department takes care of the induction or the socialization process, the employees will feel comfortable in the first day itself. HR manager and his/her team always motivate people to put their best efforts. Again, the HR can provide a thoughtful, planned orientation program in which the employee gets idea that his/her goals are aligned with the organizational goals. This reduces the turnover of the employees. Asking about the employees' expectations from the company gives an overall idea about the expected tenure. It is possible in a way suppose a person has attitude and expectations quite different from organization then it can be ascertained that the employee will not stay long with the organization. HR understands the employees feelings and emotions for which the employees can open up and discuss their problems. On the first day itself if the HR manager can build a trust among themselves then any of the problems can be solved. It also reduces the anxiety level of employees as well it saves the time of the immediate reporting manager. It also helps in understanding the job expectations, responsibilities and accountabilities of the employee. Apart from the old traditional boring paperwork of joining, the HR department can plan for some entertainment activities or welcome ceremony in which the employee will be motivated towards work. With all these things the HR manager can build an empire which is unique and it can become a strategic partner along with a administrator.
