Question

Navigating Faith and Work: Event planning is often hard work. At times things go wrong in event execution, despite meticulous planning. This can sometimes result in criticism or people suggesting a "better way" of doing things. Consider 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” and Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as to the Lord and not for men.” The Topic Material for the week emphasizes the importance of determining the objectives of the event. As you think about objectives for the event that you are planning to execute, how can you apply the message of the two verses above into your planning process, particularly as you select the primary and secondary objectives for your event? What do these verses imply about the attitude and work ethic you should adopt as an event planner?

Explanation / Answer

Answer: The process of planning and objective setting is never perfect and often creates a doubt that weather is it worthwhile to undertake such exercise. Often the planning process fails and we are unable to achieve our objectives. The message of both these verses is in a way common and states that we should not just undertake work for a certain type of result but we should work as it is the will of God and the results are also the will of God. As per 1 Corinthians 10:31 message whatever we do we need to do for the glory of the God and not for certain types of desired outcomes. Similarly Colossians 3:23 says whatever one does he should do it with full heart as one works for God and not men. Therefore one should not hesitate in getting involved in the planning process and setting of objectives despite the fact that they do not always yield results. One should prepare both primary and secondary objectives as no one knows the will of God. One should always keep a positive attitude and work hard as he is not working for men but for God.
