Question

Sum with text not formatting

Hello all

I'm trying to use a formula that calculates the number Emails gained compared to calls taken.

This formula does the job just fine:

=COUNTA(G5:G50)/COUNTA(F5:F50)

What I'm trying to do though is add the word "Email" in front. So I have:

="Email "&COUNTA(G5:G50)/COUNTA(F5:F50)

This wouldn't let me format as a percentage so I added:

="Email "&COUNTA(G5:G50)/COUNTA(F5:F50) &" %"

Now this is working on all fronts except it returns the result to 14 decimal points.

It doesn't seem to want to let me format the cell, I've tried #,0.00 and just 0.00, but no luck

I've also tried adding it to the formula, but it then returns the wrong result for the sum:

="Email "&COUNTA((G5:G50)/COUNTA(F5:F50),0.00) &" %"

Any help would be much appreciated

Explanation / Answer

Change the formula back to just,

=COUNTA(G5:G50)/COUNTA(F5:F50)

With that cell selected, tap Ctrl+1 and when the Format Cell dialog opens, go to the Number tab and choose Custom from the list down the left. Supply the following for the Type:,

"Email "0.00%

Adjust the decimal point if necessary. The percentage will remain a true number that can be used in further calculations.
