Question

Making a dropdown whose selection populates data into the 12 columns next to it.

Having a lot of trouble on something that is probably simple and looking for help. I have a report in excel and I want to make a drop down selection in one cell, let's say B1. The drop down will have two options to select. Once I select one of the two choices I want the 12 columns to the right of this selection to pull back data (I'm assuming from a table I can create). So essentially the selections would be "original budget" or "revised budget" and the 12 columns to the right would represent data for each month from Jan to Dec and the numbers in those 12 columns on the same row would change to match whichever selection is chosen. I know I can use data validation to make a drop down but I can't figure out how to get the existing data to populate in the other columns on that row based on the selection. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm using Excel 2010. Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

#%&#^ Hi, SAssuming you have a sheet called O)riginal and another Revised, then in your sheet you select in B1 Original and you want for example column B to pull the information from the original sheet, same column based on the description in column A if yes,

=INDEX(INDIRECT($B$1&"!B:B"),MATCH($A6,INDIRECT($B$1&"!$A:$A"),0))

copy formula right and down
