Question

I am having trouble opening Office Files that are embedded in an Excel Spreadsheet.

My setup:

- MacBook Pro Running Mountaion Lion

- Excel 2011 Version 14.2.3

- 8GB Ram

- MacBook Air Running Lion

- Excel 2011 Version 14.2.3

- 4GB Ram

The Excel spreadsheet that contains the Power Point and Word files was originally created in a Windows Machine Running Windows 7 and Office 2010.

The spreadsheet is xlsx and embedded files themselves are PPTX, DOCX and PPTM.

The error that I receive is: "Cannot Start the Source Application for this File, there may not be enough memory".

However the appslications needed (Word and Powerpoint) are alreardy open and theres pltenty o memory on the computers.

Thank you!!!!

Explanation / Answer

Although related, what you're describing really isn't the same :-) I can almost guarantee that your issue is due to the Excel workbook having been saved in the .xls file format.

You should also use Help> Check for Updates to make sure the Office 2011 software is current [14.3.9].

BTW: It really is not to yoiur advantage to post an issue in another user's conversation... especially one that has been dormant for @more than a year. It's commendable that you did search before posting, but if the results you find don't resolve your isssue it's best to post a new question.
