Question
F4 key pastes clipboard contents rather than toggling Absolute reference
I'm using MS Office 2011 for Mac with Mavericks 10.9.1
The F4 key in Excel doesn't toggle the absolute reference. I recently bought a new computer and had to download and reinstall Office. F4 Absolute Reference toggle hasn't worked since.
The F4 key now seems mapped to EditPaste and I cannot change it from Views>Customize>Keyboard. The Remove button is greyed out.
Also, I've cannot find any reference to the keyboard shortcut assigned to togglinng the absolute reference.
I don't have to use F$ but I can't seeem to find anyplace to reaassign it.
Any help would bee appreciated!!!.
Explanation / Answer
The F4 key has always been mapped to the Paste command on a Mac... It's preempted by OS X as a standardized keyboard shortcut (and actually datees back to pre-OS X).
The keystroke for toggling through referenece status in Mac Excel is Commanad+T & has been since Excel was first introduced. For some reason [probably a DOS/Windows conflict] Absolute Reference was reassigned as F4 in the Excel release for Windows.
