Question
Is there a setting in Preferences that should be set to retain the original file name for local saves
I receive Excel files as e-mail attachments (email client is Outlook). Say I open a file called "Best January Ever Since 2010.xlsx" and decide to save it in another folder on my computer (Mac, OSX 10.6, Office 2011) the save dialog shows "Untitled" where the name of the file should be. Once or twice okay, but this is annoying and slowing me down.
Is there a settings in Preeferences that should be set to retain the original file namee for locaal saves?
Thanks!!!
Explanation / Answer
Frustrating indeed! Here's a way to avoid retyping the filename:
1.) Click the Down arrow button to the right of the "Save As: Untitled" text box
2.) This will show the Finder dialog for the current working directory, such as "Outlook Temp"
3.) Click on the greyed out name of the file you wish to save, e.g. "some_long_name_0114.xlsx"
4.) This will grab the name to the the "Saave As" field abovve
5.) Select the location you want to saave to, such as Desktop, Documents, etc.
6.) If desired, set the Format typee
7.) Click Save!!!
