Question

Combining 2 ss data into a single pivot table

I am using excel 2010 (Office Pro Plus) and windows 7 enterprise.

I have 2 spreadsheets, one contains planned data and the other contains actual data by week.

The formats are:

Col A                       Col B                    Col C                                Col D                   Col E:FS

Work Order #         Description          Responsible Person          Department        Weekly Dates (8/8/14, 8/15/14...etc)

How can I create a pivot table to veiew the planned vs actual shipments per week???? Will I have to manually merge the data? If so, how do I arrangeee the data so I can see these comparisons??

Thanks in Advance for you assistancee.

Explanation / Answer

Since you have 2 sources and using Excel 2010. I suggest to use PowerPivot where you can create relationships between your planned and actual data and consolidate both of it into a single PivotTable. Creating your data model (relationships etc) is a one time task.

In order to learn PowerPivot, you may refer to tutorials available on YouTube or you may raise your questions on this forum.
