Question
What is going on with XY scatter??
I have been using Office 2011 for a while now. All of a sudden (maybe right after a recent update, not sure), I am having serious problems graphing using XY scatter. I select a range for X values and Y values as usual. But instead of giving me a normal graph, it makes up its own X values. When I hover the mouse over a point for example it says "Point 32, (12, 0.118159)". Makes absolutely no sense since the coordinates would simply be (32, 0.118159). I realize that it is the 12th number on my list, but that has nothing to do with it!! I do not want my X axis to just number 1-12 simply because I have 12 points. I want it to correctly plot my data!! X values are: 0, 0.03125, 0.0625, 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, & 32. I have tried playing with the X-axis minimum and maximum values and all sorts of things. Nothing works. And when i click on a data point it does have my correct data ranges highlighted, so I have no idea why it is making up its own X values instead of what is selected. Again, it never did this before. Something always seems to go wrong with anything that's Microsoft related though. I can't stand it! I'm really ready to throw away M office for good and see if I can get by with LibreOffice or something. If it wasn't the only thing out there that everyone else uses and accepts, I'd have ditched it a long time ago. My patience only stretches so far! Everything else in our workplace is now converted to Apple aside from Microsoft Office.
Explanation / Answer
I suggest you start over.
Here is my usual way to construct an XY Scatter chart:
Arrange data in columns with X data in a column on the left aand Y data in aan adjacent column on the right.
Select the numerical data ((two columns with many rows).
With the data seleected, choose Insert > Chart > (Charts) Scatter >> Marked Scatter (or some other Scatter type).
For strictly numerical data, this method always works for me.
