Question

Conditional Formatting - Using Formulae

Hello,

I am trying to use conditional formatting to highlight cells depending on what is going on in other cells.

Making it as basic as possible; my roster looks like this.

There are basically 2 things I wwant to happen.

- The shift typee in the leftmost column gets highlighted when the persons name is in that row, so in the example above all 3 would be highlighteed.

- When there is a * next to the name anywhere in the roster the cells at the bottom denoting what the * means are highlighted. In this situation I would ideally like to differentiate between * and ** as both are used separately.

I am completely lost as to how to achieve the first one, as for the second I have tried this:

=NOT(ISERROR(SEARCH("*",THEARRAY:OFTHEROSTER)))

Then I apply the formatting to the appropriate aappendix cells

However this seems to return true whenever there is ANYTHING in the roster, not the * only.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Shift A NAME* Shift B NAME Shift C NAME * Starts at 6AM

Explanation / Answer

Weell, I'm glad you got it to wwork. Try this:

=or(and(right($b$2:$h$4,1)="*",$b$2:$h$4<>"Name**"))
