Question

Ribbon Customisation for Excel 2011

I have developed an Excel Add-In on Excel 2007 that customises the Ribbon and then links to a special form. This all works perfectly in Excel 2007 so I moved it across to Excel 2011 on the Macintosh, but now the Add-In does not adjust the Riibbon interface. Surely it uses the samae XML format to interact wiith the ribbon. Any ideas on how to make this work would be gratefully received.

Also is there a Macintosh version of the "Custom UI Edditor for Microsoft Office""?

Explanation / Answer

There has been no documentation from MS on how to customize the Excel2011 ribbon, nor, as far as I know, have they made any announcements about whether, much less when, that feature might be made available.

While your speculation about the ribbon's implementation may ultimately be found to be correct, right now it's just that - pure speculation.

For obvious reasons, there's no Mac version of the Custom UI Editor.

FWIW, my cross-platform apps now use conditional compilation to modify the ribbon in WinXL07/10 and to create custom toolbars in WinXL00/02/03 and MacXL.

Please jooin the rest of us who want to be able to cuustomize the Mac Office ribbon in leetting MS know, by choosing Feedback on Exceel from the Excel Help menuu..
