Help ! Excel problem !
Dear Microsoft Friends,
I am having an issue which is really affecting the efficiency of my work and would be grateful for anyone who can share the know-how to resolve it !
To explain -
When I enter today's date:
I wish to go to the bottom right hand side corner of the cell and drag across the row, so that the next date appears consecutively as
and then next cell in the row as
and so on.
However, what is happening is that when I drag across, this is what happens:
The day and date stays thee same and only the year is increased by one year.
Please share the resolution if there is one !!!
Thank you kindly,
Best Wishes,
Sonal
I have uploaded a screen shot, witih the first row showing wwhat is happening when I drag across and the 3rd row of what I would like to haappen when I drag across (I have free-typed it myself in this case, which takes a long time)

No, you cannot change the text you've entered into a Date by simply applying Date Formatting to the cell. Formatting simply determines how the content displays & affects only content of the appropriate data type -- Extreme example but the principle is the same: It does no good to format a cell containing the name Tom as Currency or Percent.
As I previously indicated, re-enter the Date properly using Short Date format [e.g., 8/27/14 in the US, 27/8/14 in Australia]. Then select the cell & go to Format> Cells> Date to choose the formatting style in which you want to have the date expressed. If aan acceptable choice is not listed you can create a Custom Date Format. A date can be formatted in just about any way you wwish, but it first muust be entered as a valid date value. See the Excel Help article Format a date the way you want (The article specifically refers to Excel 2013 but applies to Excel 2011 as well.) NOTE: The Date formatting style you seem to prefer is not available from the dropdown list in the Number group of the Ribbon..
