a)     Class of IP address.

b)    How many bits are used for subnet address?

c)     Find the subnet mask and write it in decimal version.

d)    Find the sub-network address in decimal version.

e)     Find the host number in decimal version

f)     With the given scheme of sub-networking what is the number of sub-networks that can be formed and what is the total number of hosts combined for all the sub-networks? (take into account the loss of addresses in subnetting)

Explanation / Answer

1101 0110 1001 0010 1110 0111 0100 1101 is equivalent to 214.146.231.77

a) This is a class C ip addres. (Class C IP addresses range from 192.-.-.- to 223.-.-.-)
b) 8+8+8+3 = 27 bits are used for subnet
c) Decimal Version = 255.255.255.224
   Binary Version: 1111 1111 . 1111 1111. 1111 1111. 1110 0000

e) Host number in decimal : 13
f) The default subnet mask fir class C ip address is 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 i.e. 255.255.255.0
But we are using 3 bites extra. So Total number of subnets possible = 2^3 = 8
