Question

How can I keep the Home tab selected in Excel 2010?

With Excel 2010, in order to format cells, I must first select the cells, then select the Home tab to access the format tools.

After choosing a format option such as Fill Color, I am automatically taken back to the File tab.

So to change multiple format options (e.g. Fill Color, Bold, Italic, Underline) I must re-select the Home tab for each format tool I want to use.

Is there a way to keep the Home tab selected instead of automatically reverting back to the File tab after each format selection?

This same question applies to the other tabs as well (Insert, Page Layout, Formulas, etc.).

Thanks for help !!

Explanation / Answer

Hi..

The File button is not a tab. When you are on the File "tab", your entire document (spreadsheet) disappears and is completely replaced with a full-screen menu selection.

Instead, it sounds like the home tab itself is disappearing on you. To prevent that, simply double-click the Home tab to lock it back as visible.
