Question
Think of the company you work for, a company you have worked for in the past, a company you would like to work for, or the company you are researching for your term project. How would you describe the organization of this company's top management team? Is some decision making decentralized and delegated to individual managers? If so, explain how to decentralization works. Or are decisions made more by consensus, with all co-managers having input? What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of the decision-making approach your company is employing?
Explanation / Answer
Answer: The organization of the top management team at the company is hierarchical with a top to bottom approach of communication. The top management is very cooperative and concerned about the people below them and the decision making up to a fair extent is de centralized. Though the major strategic decisions are taken at the top level but the managers at the lower levels have powers to take decisions related with their regular business. There is a fair degree of decentralization and the power and decision making is delegated to the lower levels in the organization. Decentralization helps in making the decision making fast and makes organization more responsive. The lower level of managers in a de centralized structure need not to wait for the approvals from the top for decisions they take and hence the decisions are fast and better. The advantages of de centralization are that it enables fast and responsive decision making, it develops confidence inside the organization because of delegation, it reduces load on the top management. The disadvantages’ are that the control of the top management gets diluted and often decisions taken by the lower management is not as per the overall strategic direction of the company.
