Dashboards and visualizations help in better understanding of real time scenarios, issues and take proactive actions to stop any hindrance to smooth process flow. In the area of supply chain, demand forecasting plays a huge and vital role. Even though all the data is available within the system, the huge volume of numbers and associated data may often result in getting the data overlooked and no proper analysis can be done from it. To ensure the data is used properly, we undertook a project to present the data in dashboard using tableau.

The data shared by Regional sales teams were compared to the historical data on a 3 month rolling average method and same was used to create a forecast model basis multiple constraints. The scope of the project was to get entire demand forecast data along with the previous month’s accuracy on a single view page. The project methodology was to design wireframes, get proper data tables in SAP system and pass the data using multiple constraint filters to get the best solution. Tableau provided the best solution in our case. We passed the data from SAP system to individual sheets in Tableau and from the multiple sheets we created dashboard which showed all relevant data. We even ensured that multiple dashboards were created, in case anyone wanted to drill down a level to get the actual data. The data parsing and storage was a challenge initially but the technology team supported to get over the problem.

The final deliverable was the Tableau dashboard. All data presented to role based users across multiple management levels. The tight integration between multiple systems along with seamless data refresh ensured that the dashboard is still being used properly by higher management. Analysis can be also be done on the dashboard to get instant results. The design was setup in a simple manner that with less amount of training the dashboard can be effectively used.
