Question

Q. 1. Describe, with examples, the two basic ideas most experts agree that artificial intelligence (AI) is concerned with? And list five applications of artificial intelligence?

Q.2. What is knowledge engineering? Draw the diagram of Knowledge Engineering Process?

Q.3. The development of expert systems is often described as a tedious process. What activities does it typically include?

Q4: What is knowledge management (KM), and explain the differences between the two fundamental approaches to knowledge management?

Q5: Define groupware tools, and what are the differences between synchronous and asynchronous tools (give some examples)?

Explanation / Answer

Q 1) Ans:Most experts are agree that AI is concerned with two basic ideas.

i) First , it involves studying the thought process of human (to understand what intelligence is).

ii)Second,it deals with represting those thought process via machine.

e.g :Computers ,robots,AI is also used in cars like oddy.

*Applications of AI:

1)Problem Solving

2)Game playing

3)Image processing

4)Robotics

5)Expert System

Q2) Ans:Definition of Knowledge Engineering : It is a field within AI that developes knowledge-based systems.Such systems are computer programs that contains large amount of knowledge.

e.g. : CAD(Computer Aided Design)

Q 3) Following are the Activities for developement of expert system :

a) Identifying proper experts.

b) Acquiring knowledge.

c) Selecting the building tools.

d) Coding the system.

e) Evaluating the system.

Q 4) Definition Of Knowledge Management : It is the process of capturing, distributing and effictively using knowledge.

The two Fundamental approches of KM are Explicit knowledge and Implicit Knowledge.

A) Explicit Knowledge : It is articulated knowledge, expressed and recorded as words, numbers, codes, mathematical and scientific formulae and musical notations. Explicit knowledge is easy to communicate, store, and distribute and is the knowledge found in books, on the web and other visual and oral means. This is the type of knowledge most easily handled by KMS, which are very effective at facilitating the storage, retrieval and modification of documents and texts.

B) Implicit Knowledge :Implicit Knowledge can be defined simply as knowledge that is not explicit.Implicit Knowledge is very much about “knowing how” to do something but it is something that we may not be able to explain or describe explicitly. Implicit Knowledge is often tapped into indirectly and unintentionally.

Q 5)Definition Of Groupware tool : Groupware tool is also known as collaboration software. It is an application software designed to help people involved in a common task to achieve their goals.

*Synchronous Groupware : Programs that enables real time collaboration is called as Synchronous groupware.Real time collaboration deals with video-conferencing, instant chat etc.

E.g:Virtual classroom is the best example of sychronous groupware.Where one or more teachers are leading an online course, and any amount of learners are following it in real-time online, and can ask questions and contribute along the way, usually by posting comments.

*Asynchronous Groupware : Asynchronous groupware supports communication between physically and geographically dispersed groups of individuals at different times, unlike synchronous groupware.Asynchronous groupware users can collaborate on shared data access and modifications anonymously.

Eg :The best examples of asynchronous groupware are email, structured messages, computer conferencing, file sharing systems, collaborative writing systems etc
