Explanation / Answer
For Draymond Green, this represents the best possible news. The heart and soul of the Warriors’ defense exited the season opener with a strained knee, and needed an MRI. Given that the knee has given Green problems in the past, it seemed likely that he’d miss a few games, or even a few weeks.
That Dray won’t miss any time is a huge win, especially with the Dubs going up against a terrifying New Orleans frontcourt.
As for Andre Iguodala, we’ll get to see his season debut tonight. His back gave him problems in training camp, and he sat out the preseason finale and season opener. His defense and versatility were sorely missed against Houston, and his return gives the Warriors a huge second-unit advantage over a team with a painfully nonexistent bench.
Backs are finicky things, however, so it seems quite possible that Iguodala will sit out tomorrow’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
However, it’s not just these two key pieces that we might see tonight. There could be a Quinn Cook sighting as well.
Activating Cook makes a lot of sense. Players on two-way contracts are limited to 45 days on the NBA roster, but those days only count during the G-League season.
Since the G-League has not yet started, the Dubs can activate Cook without using up any of his limited time. This gives Cook the opportunity to get acclimated with the team, so that he’s ready to jump into the fire when they need him later in the year.
