Question
In that your assignment so far have not included a lot of reading about databases or big data, I am refining the Study Assignment for Case One. Instead of writing on the Case presented, please go to page 35 of your book. Pick one of the Problems presented on the middle of the page and write a short 2 page paper about this topic, citing at least one major IT magazine or academic review. Focus on addressing the assignment statement at the end of the question. I am not interested in merely a 'book report', but your short analysis of the issue/problem the book wishes you to address
page 35 Problems
1.1 Do some online research on the characteristics of software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Write a short paper describing the differences between these services and identifying some of the major providers of each type.
1.2 Find and view several YouTube videos on unified communications. Identify the URLs for three that you think do a particularly good job illustrating the characteristics and capabilities of UC systems. Select the one that you think is best and briefly justify your selection.
1.3 Do some online research to find information on several businesses that have benefited from implementing unified communications. Write a short paper describing how/why they are using unified communications and the business benefits that they have realized.
1.4 Do some online research to find information on several businesses that have implemented IPTV. Write a short paper describing how/why they are using IPTV and the business benefits that they have realized.
1.5 Do some online research on MANs and Metro Ethernet. Write a short paper comparing Metro Ethernet to other MAN alternatives that are available for business use.
1.6 Use Skype, Yahoo Instant Messenger, or a similar tool that combines real-time voice, video (Webcam), and chat to establish a communication session with a friend or family member. Use one or more screen captures to document the convergence of voice, video, and chat for the communication session and paste these to a word processing document in a format (such as .rtf or .docx) that can be opened by your instructor. Your screen capture(s) should include Webcam windows for yourself and your friend/ family member and a window illustrating your real-time chat

Unified Communications is the communications integrated to optimize business processes and increase user productivity. It include instant messaging, presence information, video conference, desktop sharing etc..
There are seleral business that are benifited from these UC in the IT and Medical fields especially.. There has been a growing buzz arround these companies about UC tools and almost all of the companies are adopting these tools to securely communicate over, share business information and increase quality and productivity.
Several benifits of Unified Communications are:
One server, one interface: All your communications in one place means easy management. You can even choose to have absolutely no hardware on-site, meaning your unified comms solution will sit in the Cloud, giving you even less to worry about.
Reduced Costs: Instead of paying for numerous separate products for your business that do not sync on all of your devices, you can combine all the tools you need into one monthly cost. And with UC, you only pay for what you use.
Green IT: UC can reduce your carbon footprint by restricting the employees need to travel. Furthermore, as there is less hardware on site to keep operative, you can dramatically save in energy bills too.
Improved Productivity: By introducing remote working policies you can also increase productivity at home, as studies have shown that staff working away from the office are on average up to 25% more effective.
Hyper Mobility: UC caters to the perfect idea of ‘hyper mobility’ by giving access to the office via a range and multitude of devices; smartphones, PCs, laptops, tablets and dongles. This means you are able to create your office environment any where you want and work just as effectively as you can.
All of these features of UC encourages and Business to use UC.

Internet Protocol television (IPTV): is the delivery of television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. This is in contrast to delivery through traditional terrestrial, satellite, and cable television formats.
Several business have impleented IPTV that include recently launched JIOTV, amazon video prime, Telekom etc..
One of the Biggest provider of IPTV is Deutsche Telekom. Other IPTV providers include Alcatel-Lucent , Google Fiber..etc., So, companies approach these IPTV vendors to acquire IPTV services.
The Internet protocol-based platform offers significant advantages, including the ability to integrate television with other IP-based services like high speed Internet access and VoIP. The benifits of IPTV include
Economic Efficiency: It is said that Data persistency is routinely 5% while video persistency can easily reach 50%. As video traffic continues to grow, this means that significantly more CMTS(Cable Modem Transmission System) downstream channels will be required to carry this video content. Based on today's market, it is likely that industry expenditures for CMTS expansion could exceed $2 billion a year, virtually all of that expenditure being driven by video traffic. Adoption of IPTV for carrying the majority of this traffic could save the industry approximately 75% of this capital expenditure.
Increased Interactivity: An IP-based platform also allows significant opportunities to make the TV viewing experience more interactive and personalised.
Video on Demand: IPTV technology is bringing video on demand (VoD) to television, which permits a customer to browse an online programme or film catalogue, to watch trailers and to then select a recording.
Other advantage is the opportunity for integration and convergence. Converged services implies interaction of existing services in a seamless manner to create new value added services. One example is on-screen Caller ID, getting Caller ID on a TV and the ability to handle it (send it to voice mail, etc.).

A Metropolitan Area Ethernet or Metro Ethernet network is a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) that is based on Ethernet standards. It is commonly used to connect subscribers to a larger service network or the Internet. Businesses can also use MAN to connect their own offices to each other.
advantages of MAN over other alternatives of MAN like SDH(synchronous digital heirarchy), PDH(plesichronous DH), SONET.. are:
Big organisations and public agencies use MAN.
Differences between SaaS, PaaS and IaaS Software as a Service Platform as a Service Infrastructure as a Service SaaS is a software distribution model in which third party providers host the software applications and make them available to customers over internet. PaaS is a cloud computing model in which third party provider deliver hardware and software tools needed for the development of an application. IaaS is a form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources over Internet. Eliminates the need for organizations to install and run applications on their own computers or data centers. PaaS does dot freplace the entire IT infrastructure requirement of the Businesses. But, business relies on PaaS for key services such as database hoisting, programming development etc.. This hosts the infrastructure components present in an on premesis data centers, servers, storages networks, etc..
