Question
Using "The Prophet" (Kahlil Gibran) as a reference, create a short position paper on the topic of personal strategy. Consider the following: Personal strategies, when embraced by the individual, can impact a community or perhaps society as a whole.
AND a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge.
And he answered, saying:
Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights.
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart’s knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.
And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.
Say not, “I have found the truth,” but rather, “I have found a truth.”
Say not, “I have found the path of the soul.” Say rather, “I have met the soul walking upon my path.”
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.
Read this part, and then List 5 specific references (quotes) that could support Personal Strategy
Explanation / Answer
Personal strategy is the discovery and statement of the innate, inherent skills, current status and end objective of one’s life. In a more corporate or bookish explanation it is the mission (why I exist), vision (what will be at the end or during the journey called life), How will I become that, reach that etc.
The passage, poem, ode, composition mentioned below (It is from the book “The Prophet” by the author Kahlil Gibran ) references many of the aspects of personal strategy as explained below.
AND a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge. – refers to that part of Personal strategy which is about self introspection about what we are as a person, our strengths, weaknesses, desires etc
And he answered, saying:
Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights. – refers to fact that when we talk to ourselves we have all these answers about ourselves within us itself
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart’s knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought. – refers to that one already knows himself but yearns to hear the same from others to validate their objectives
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.
And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes. - refers to the fact that when your soul is arisen due to self-awakening, you would see how much substance, character resides within you and thus would lead you to peace and constant improvements, progress.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line. – refers to the fact that there should be no numbers attached to your measurement of yourself. It should NOT BE FINITE. Let no one including you b able to put a number to it and thus end the unending path of self-actualization.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.
Say not, “I have found the truth,” but rather, “I have found a truth.”
Say not, “I have found the path of the soul.” Say rather, “I have met the soul walking upon my path.” – refers to the fact that there is no single truth and hence you have to discover the truth one y one and perhaps in your complete lifetime would not be able to complete all of them. Thus it is a journey and not a milestone.
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals. - Refers to the fact that self-discovery, Personal strategy does not have a single and defined set of process. It is not uni-dimensional. It would /should be different for each individual and should b multidimensional touching different aspects of personality, paths, objectives. Etc and ALL OF THEM WILL LEAD TO A BETTER HUMAN BEING
Next since the community is made up of human beings and multiple communities make up the society and multiple societies make up the mankind thus the process of setting personal goals and striving towards them is actually a bottom-up approach of reforming the society towards a collective goal. The beauty of the process is that every individual just needs to mind himself and the whole mankind elevates from one level to another.
