Question
You have been tasked by Seminole State College to set up a wireless network for the entire campus (you will be replacing the existing campus wireless network).
You will need to specify ALL of the necessary Access Points that Seminole will need to encompass the area that is inside the square.
The dimensions of the site are 2569ft x 2634ft (see diagram for details).
Using the information that you acquired for lab 3, determine what equipment you will need and where it will be located to get maximum coverage. Remember that you need some overlap for the wireless coverage spaces so that there are no “dead” spots in the wireless coverage.
The college wants to provide wireless in the parking lots so that students can easily gain access to resources as soon as they are on campus.
What you will be turning in.
A list of the equipment that you will need for the wireless network (access points, repeaters, etc.).
A diagram of the coverage of the network (show the coverage of the access points).
A site survey of the existing wireless network (if you can do so on campus – if not then you can use your own building).
Lastly, how you would protect the wireless access for registered users and campus guests.
Explanation / Answer
For this Mainly we need 8 - 9 access points to cover this area. Power settings should be planned such that it will allow future upgradations. Procided Signals should be very strong enough to overcome any obstructions that may happen.
1. AC at access point locations:All the equipments will be powered by a dedicated 24 hour 120 VAC, 15 A AMP circuit. A filtered Uninterrupted Power source is needed. Electrical boxes should be mounted so that transformer may be plugged in with proper weight balance. AP can utilize omni directional antennaes with 2.2 Dbi gain.
For each of 8 access points,
Protocols used : 802.11 b/g
channel: 11
output power: 11 db
Antenna gain: 3dBi
Total estimated EiRP:14 dBm
Mainly mounted on ceiling rail of a building.
Access points can be marked at an equal distribution , covering full area of college. Should be installed mainly at the ceiling of rooms spreading across full campus.
2. Power over ethernet is needed at the hub locations.
3. Each access point should be connected to wired network by UTP cable, from hub to the access point.
4. Each access point requires hub/ switch port that should be at 100 metre ethernet specification.
5. Use a better cable( 8 wire 100 base T specification) to support ethernet. Follow TIA/EIA cabling standards. Use a certified cabling contractor. Keep cables atleast 2 Feet away from fluoroscent light boxes or noise sources.
To protect wireless network from unauthorized access, we ll configure it, using:
Network name (SSID)
Wireless authentication (WPA 2 enterprise) and encryption(AES)
User authentication protocol (PEAP)
Server authentication: choose validate the server certificate
