Hi,
1. we use the term document matrix given in the question to retrieve documents, here an entry 1 says that the term is present in that document,
so each term gets its own vector with 5 values(for 5 docs) like below:
for interest its- 1 1 1 1 1
for rates its- 0 1 0 1 1
for kids its- 0 0 1 0 0
for rising its- 0 1 0 0 1
for raising its- 0 0 0 0 1
for home its- 0 1 0 0 0
now to retrive the docs based on query,
1. interest NOT rates i.e 11111 and not(01011)= 11111 and 10100= 10100
which means doc 1 and doc3 will be retrieved
2. (interest AND rates) NOT (raising or kids)
  (interest AND rates)= 11111 and 01011= 01011
NOT (raising or kids)= not(00001 or 00100)= not(00101)= 11010
now, 01011 or 11010= 11011
i,e all docs except doc3 will be retrieved
3.kids and home = 00100 and 01000= 00000
therefore no doc will be returned
