Question

There are a number of changes occurring in the staffing process for both organizations and individuals. One change is the growing use of the Internet to facilitate matching employers with potential employees. To get a better handle on this change, I would like us to spend some time examining this phenomenon and getting more comfortable with this approach.

Discuss what opportunities and problems you see for organizations in using the Internet to facilitate the staffing process. What about for applicants?

Explanation / Answer

The internet has undoubtedly facilitated staffing process for the organizations which are using it. The internet has facilitated organisations to select from the pool of the expert and capable candidates by just visiting job portals .The internet is the fastest medium to advertise job vacancies for an organisation and as well as for the applicants. The data bank has been maintained by different job portals and number of candidates can be sorted out within a fraction of second. It is easy for applicants to update their application and data regarding experience, skills etc periodically. The applicants can be shortlisted on the basis of key words and skill sets, qualifications, age etc quickly. It is the cheapest form of communication and has reach to far flung areas too. The applicants need not to search jobs in the newspapers, commute to drop their bio-data physically and need not to amend it every time. Through internet and surfing social media the applicant whereabouts and behaviour can also be checked. The applicants can modify their profiles according to the suitability of the skills required by a particular company. The organisation can churn out the applicants from enormous data as per their desired skill sets. The problems with the internet usage is that software driven software can churn out potential capable candidates also due to unable to find the keywords by the software in its bio data. The internet can ear mark some candidates to be un suitable without going through the detailed bio data .The applicants need to be always on alert for the job recruitments on the internet .The personal relations can affect the screening of the candidate profile depending upon the past conduct with any of the known employee.
