Question 1
Are the following MATLAB Variable names legal or illegal? If anyone is illegal, explain why it is illegal. (a) dog1 (b) 1dog
(c) Do_you_know_the_way_to_san_jose (d) _help (e) What’s_up?
Question 2
Determine the size and contents of the following arrays. Note that the later arrays may depend on the definitions of arrays defined earlier in this exercise. Don’t use MATLAB. Calculate these operations by yourself. (a) a = 2:3:8;
(b) b=[a’a’a’]; (c) c=b(1:2:3,1:2:3); (d) d=a+b(2,:); (e) w = [zeros(1,3) ones(3,1)’ 3:5’]; (f) b([1 3], 2) = b([3 1], 2);
Question 3
Given a, b, c and d as follows, calculate the following operations. If anyone is illegal, explain why it is illegal. Don’t use MATLAB. Calculate these operations by yourself.
(a) a*d (b) a+b (c) a.*c (d) a.^b; (e) a.*d (f) a * c
?3 2 -1?
a = ?2 1 5 ?
?4 4 1? ??
b = ones(3) +1
d = eyes(3)
c = ?4?
??3?
?2? ??
Question 4
Power in Resistor The voltage across a resistor is related to the current flowing through it by Ohm’s law
V = IR And the power consumed in the resistor is given by the equation
P = IV Assume that a resistor is with 1000 O and the current flowing through it varied from 0A to 0.5A.
Write a program to plot following two datasets on one figure: (a) the voltage across the resistor as current flowing through it (b) the power consumed by the resistor as current flowing through it Be sure to include proper labels, including title, x & y labels, legends, etc.
Question 5
Radio Receiver A simplified version of the front end of an AM radio receiver is shown in the following figure. This receiver consists of an RLC tuned circuit containing a resistor, a capacitor, and an inductor connected in series. The RLC circuit is connected to an external antenna and ground as shown in the figure.
The tuned circuit allows the radio to select a specific station out of all the stations transmitting on the AM band. At the resonant frequency of the circuit, essentially all of the signal
V0 appearing at the antenna appears across the resistor, which represents the rest of the radio. In other words, the radio receives its strongest signal at the resonant frequency. The resonant
frequency of the LC circuit is given by the equation
f0= 1 2p LC
Where L is inductance in henrys (H) and C is capacitance in farads (F). Write a program to fix following problems: (a) Calculate the resonant frequency of the radio when L = 0.25mH and C = 0.10nF (b) Calculate the frequency given any user-specified values of L and C.
(c) GiventheC=0.10nF,createaplotofthefrequencyasinductancevaryingfrom0.10mHto 0.50mH; given the C = 0.20nF, create a plot of the frequency as inductance varying from
0.10mH to 0.50mH. The above two plots should be on same figure and proper labels should be included.
