Question

1.8)
Your answer should be roughly one or two paragraphs.
Many of the computational models of cognitive activities that have been proposed involve quite complex mathematical operations, such as convolving an image with a Gaussian or ?nding a minimum of the entropy function. Most humans (and certainly all animals) never learn this kind of mathematics at all, almost no one learns it before college, and almost no one can compute the convolution of a function
with a Gaussian in their head. What sense does it make to say that the “vision system” is doing this kind of mathematics, whereas the actual person has no idea how to do it?

Explanation / Answer

Computer vision is to perceive objects. The vision system extracts information from images. It does not need any program to understand a specific concept behind an image. That means, to do a task, an AI system has to be programmed accordingly. But a vision system is simply programmed with grasping the information through images. It does not need to be programmed to learn the concept of mathematical operations etc. So, even the human does not learn such concepts, they can be simply implemented through vision systems, as they scan the image for information. Hence the vision systems are being able to do such kind of mathematics with out human knowledge.
