How would you respond to this? " We use statistical thinking in our everyday activities. When driving to work or school, you always think about different ways to take or which way is going to get you there fastest or without much hold ups. We see it on the television with all the different broadcast and news reports. A lot of people like to play the lottery or scratch off tickets. I watch my pap do it every day and there is statistical thinking involved with that because they always try to pick the right card or figure out what prize card has a better chance of wining. One last example would be planning and organizing schedules. I know whenever I write down all of the work that I need to do in a week and plan it out accordingly where I have enough time to work on each assignment, the quality of my work seems to be a lot better when I do not forget or have to do it last minute. "

Explanation / Answer

The thought process that has been explained is based on the everyday computation of probability and other statistical computations such as mean, sampling, and so on. Definitely, it has to be accepted that in our daily activities we incorporate considerable amount of statistical manipulations. However, it has to be understood that most of these calculations are instinctive and are done automatically through the mental processing of our brain. There is no theoretical learning involved or calculation with the help of formula. Therefore, it is justified to say that statistics is an integral part of society with wide applications and cannot be considered a theoretical concept. It is an application based subject which can be implemented through rational thought process.
