There are seven bulleted points to help a manager acquire more confidence while building expert power. In approximately 500 words, explain how you would use this information and build expert power in a managerial role as it applies to delegation and decision making.

Building expert power :

In order to have a competitive advantage at the workplace, over your peers, it is very important to build the expert power. There are six steps to build the expert power:

1) Promote an image of an expertise:

"Actions speak more than words" is what is applicable here. It is always important to promoto your image by displaying it through actions instead of talking about how knowledgeable you are. So, always display your appreciation certificates, awards, or any achievements to let people know that you are worthy to be an expert.

2) Maintain Credibility:

It is not enough to display your expertise, it is very important that you maintain it. Maintaining credibility is very important factor to keep up the image. It is always advisable to go for high profile work and projects which upholds your image.

3) Act Confidently and Decisively in a Crisis:

In the crisis situation, it is very important to stay calm and composed. Being calm and thinking wise in the crisis situation is what leaders do. In order to display your leadership skills, keep up the good work along with staying calm and bring the best out of you in a crisis will give a greater identity.

4) Keep Informed

Always stay updated with the information, upto date with the facts and figures such that you will be heard as a knowledgeable person. It is very important to have a good social network who are in the similar lines like you are in. This will ensure that you share knowledge and knowledge is wealth and brings power.

5) Recognize People's Concerns and Contributions

Listening is powerful than speaking. Instead of you speaking, let others speak. When people speak, they let out their heart and they will certainly put forth their concerns. This is give them an idea that you are the one who is always there to lend your ear for them. Appreciating the contributions of the people around you will make them motivated and empowered.

6) Avoid Threatening People's Self-Esteem

It is very important to note that never compare two people. No two people work alike. Competency of one person need not be compared with competency of other person. And no two people like to be compared to their efforts, that will threaten their self esteem.
