Ans.First we need to understand the duties of quality engineer. The most common and important duty of quality engineer is to maintain quality standards.Quality engineers establish, implement and maintain quality management systems to measure and control quality in the production process. They work with designers to establish quality standards for individual products and set out the standards in documents and processes for the production team.Quality engineers work with members of the supply chain to ensure the quality of raw materials, components or sub-assemblies meets the company’s quality standards. They agree on standards with suppliers and implement inspection processes to monitor incoming material. Engineers monitor suppliers’ quality performance and implement corrective and preventative measures to deal with any quality issues. And other duties with suppliers are :-
For this case
(a) If company is allowing to accept gifts then we can think of accepting in limited quantity because it is not going beyond company ethics but before accepting any gift quality engineer should research about the supplier, his presence in market, quality standards of its products, price, terms and conditions etc.and also he/she must assure a business dealing or meeting before accepting any gift.It also depends upon the company gift policy if a gift is allowed, the gift policy defines the acceptable value and type of gift permissible to employees.
(b) Yes this option is correct quality engineer should report all the gifts to company. This will help in building trust, goodwill and also it can be termed as basic professional and ethical responsibilty for the company
(c) This will be against the professional and ethical responsibilty, accepting gifts without telling the company will be against company values and code of conduct.
(d) This is also wrong intentionally telling other potential suppliers about gifts means greediness which is against ethical and professional responsibilty. If company gets information about this it can suspend or puniish quality engineer as it is against company code of conduct policy.Telling other potential suppliers about gifts is automatically lead to biasness.
