Validation requires 7 digits (1234567) or the proper combination of digits and dashes (12-34-567). If 7 digits are provided insert the dashes appropriately after validation. If the text box content is not successfully validated remove the contents.

6. The VLN number should be stored with dashes as a cookie after validation.

7. If a VLN has been previously saved it should be retrieved from the cookie and displayed on each page to let the user know they are logged in.

8. If the VLN number has been previously stored a button should appear in place of the VLN textbox. The button should be labeled "log off." When clicked the VLN cookie should be expired and the VLN removed from the current page. Using DOM manipulation the button should then be replaced with the original VLN textbox ready for data entry. These object manipulations should NOT reflow the page.
