Explanation / Answer
There are various goals of the project and the goals may have a direct or indirect result that will make the project better. There are technical goals which will cater to the needs of the client directly and will improve the existing system that the client is currently using. There are various business goals like helping the client minimize manual effort thereby reducing labor cost to a certain extent. Goals related to knowledge is also present where the objective is to learn new skills and technologies which will be used in future. Finally the objective is to improve the system of clients which they are currently using and make the process better.
No project can be successful without a proper planning and analysis and it is considered that this is the most important and critical phase of a project which will decide the fate. The basic objective is to understand the Scope of the project and that of the product in order to make things simpler to understand and work on which will increase efficiency. If the client is familiar and well known, then things are comparatively simpler because then there is idea about the objective of the product the client is expecting, if the client is new then the scope should be defined by the client at a granular level to avoid challenges while working. If the team is aware what needs to be achieved then the product will be according to the requirement and within the deadline. If the above mentioned aspects are defined then it can be concluded that project scope is defined.
The Statement of Work is a document which should consist of the business need and also the quality parameters which will be considered while accepting the product. It may also include the mandatory needs, preferences and the good to have features.
The Project Charter is a formal document provided to the project manager which authorizes the project manager to go ahead with the project and will be provided with the budget of the project.
If both Statement of Work and Project Charter is provided, the execution of the project actually becomes clear because then the team is very much clear about the amount of work needed to be done in the stipulated time and within the quoted budget.
Managing a team may seem to be a cake walk but the truth is actually different because a team consists of various individuals, each having a different attitude towards work and unique in his or her own way therefore there are some traits a project manager may possess to be efficient. Firstly, a project manager should have a proper vision of what needs to done and making each and every team member aware of the situation. Secondly, effective communication is something without which it is almost impossible for a project manager to achieve the goals because he should possess the quality to make each and every individual aware of their responsibilities. Thirdly, passion or enthusiasm should be very high or else it will be difficult for him to drive the team because the team may lack enthusiasm at some point and it is the duty of the manager to bring them back to track. Fourthly, the team must be aware that the project manager is aware of each and everything going on in the project because if this is not happening then the project manager will lose the importance in the project and the project may not be successful. Lastly, problem solving ability is a must to have because members may experience impediments but the manger should have a mind that possess ideas or alternative methods to overcome.
The team members should also possess skills which are necessary to work and achieve success. Responsibility, self motivation, team player, flexibility, positive attitude and ethics are some of the desired and necessary qualities that the individual should possess in order to make the project successful.
