Question

Here are some questions I am needing assistance with. The excel data I am attaching is whats to be used with answering the below questions.

1. Type up a stem-and-leaf plot chart in the box below for the variable Money, with a space between the stems and the group of leaves in each line. Use the tens value as the stem and the ones value for the leaves. It may be helpful to sort the data based on the Money variable first. An example of a stem-and-leaf plot would look like this: 04 5 693 15 6 3 6 2 9 2 The stem-and-leaf plot shown above would be for data 4, 5, 6, 9, 3, 15, 16, 13, 16, 29, and 22. (4 points) Calculating Descriptive Statistics 2. Calculate descriptive statistics for the variable Height by Gender. Click on Insert and then Pivot Table. Click in the top box and select all the data (including labels) from Height through Gender. Also click on "new worksheet" and then OK. On the right of the new sheet, click on Height and Gender, making sure that Gender is in the Rows box and Height is in the Values box. Click on the down arrow next to Height in the Values box and select Value Field Settings. In the pop up box, click Average then OK. Type in the averages below. Then click on the down arrow next to Height in the Values box again and select Value Field Settings. In the pop up box, click on StdDev then OK. Type the standard deviations below. (3 points) Mean Standard deviation Females Males

Explanation / Answer

Question 1:- Stem and leaf plot chart for variable money

0    1 3 5 5 5 7 7 7 9

1    0 6

2    0 0 1 3 9

3    1 2 4 7

4    0 0 1 3 3 4 5 5 6 7 7 8

5    2 3 3

Question 2:- Mean and standard deviation of heights for males and females

Mean for males(height)= (69+70+65+65+71+68+72+66+74+65+74+75+69+70+71+71+69)/17=69.64

Mean for females(height)=(62+67+70+60+64+69+67+70+62+63+63+65+65+65+65+67+66+69)/18=65.5

Now to calculate standard deviation , first we need to calculate the variance

To calculate variance , for each number subtract the mean and square the result(the squared difference)

males- variance=((0.4096)+(0.1296)+(21.5296)+(21.5296)+(1.8496)+(2.6896)+(5.5696)+(13.2496)+(19.0096)+(21.5296)+(19.0096)+(28.7296)+(0.4096)+(0.1296)+(1.8496)+(1.8496)+(0.4096))/16=8.64

males- standard deviation=square root(8.138)=2.94

females- variance = 12.25+2.25+20.25+30.25+2.25+12.25+2.25+20.25+12.25+6.25+6.25+0.25+0.25+0.25+0.25+2.25+0.25+12.25/17=8.38

females- standard deviation= square root(8.38)=2.89

Question-3- I have created a pie chart

Red, because on the pie chart it is the color that stands out the most. Takes up majority of the space on the graph.

Qusetion 4- One bar has a notably higher frequency than the others. The graph appears to be skewed left.

Question 5-The data are mostly at the low end of the values. Therefore, the data are skewed right.

Question 6- The females are shorter than the males on average.

Question 7- The female heights are more disperse than the males heights. There are more females taller and shorter than the average, than there are males.

Question 8- add and subtract the standard deviation twice from the mean:

65.5– 2.89– 2.89= 59.72

65.5 +2.89+2.89= 71.28

95% of the female heights fall within 59.72 and 71.28

Question 9:- add and subtract the standard deviation once from the mean:

69.64-2.94= 66.7

69.64 + 2.94=72.58

68% of the males heights fall within 66.7 and 72.58
