PART 1
1. What is motivation and how its different forms are related.
The word “MOTIVATION” is derived from the word Motive which means needs, desires, wants or drives within an individual. Simply motivation is the process of influencing the behaviours of people and stimulating them to actions by which set objectives or goals can be accomplished.
Broadly speaking there are two types of Motivations such as Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation. In Intrinsic Motivation people are motivated or stimulated by certain factors known as intrinsic factors which are coming from within. Generally, factors like Acceptance, Honour, Social Contacts, and Power etc are intrinsic factors.
In Extrinsic Motivation people are motivated or stimulated by certain factors known as extrinsic factors which are coming from outside. Generally, factors like Benefit Packages, Bonuses, and Organization activities etc are extrinsic factors.
It is important to note that every individual is not same so does his motivational needs. An Individual may be motivated by intrinsic factors while to some other people extrinsic factors play a big role in driving their desires or needs.While there may be other individuals who would be motivated by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Hence it is important to understand human behaviour first.
2. What is the importance of employee performance?
From the organizational perspective, employees are the biggest resources and to manage these resources is the tough work .Employee performance means the performance of an employee in accomplishing a goal or objective. In other words it is a tool to measure the efficiency of an employee in doing or performing a particular task that he has been assigned.Employee performance is the performance indicator of an employee and based on this the organization decides how these resources can be handled or managed effectively to accomplish set goals or objectives. Further Employee performance is a greatest motivating factor for an employee .In other words performance is the great motivational factor for the employees . If the past performance is good, employees are motivated to do better and excel in their respective works. Similarly if the performance is bad, employees are still motivated to do better next time in order to accomplish goals and win the trust and confidence of Organization.
3. How do the different forms of motivation influence employee performance?
Different forms of motivation influence greatly to the employee performance. In fact Motivation is a tool in the Hands of Management to increase the productivity of an employees. It is the Management who decides how an individual is motivated to work effectively. Accordingly it devises appropriate strategies to increase the employee productivity. All employees are not same. Each employee is separate from each other by means odf attitudes behaviours, thinking capacity, and more importantly the need or desire .Hence it is important to study the employee behaviour first and then employ motivating factors to them , so that they will be get stimulated to perform.
