Question
I need assistance with giving a reply to my classmate answer: Here is the question:
Go to this Web site and listen to the podcast dealing with customer trust as it relates to call centers. I think you will find it interesting. In your posts, share your thoughts about what was said in the pod cast. In addition, respond to the questions below as appropriate. Do you think that trust today is more or less important than it was a decade ago? Do you believe Americans are more cynical and less trusting today than they have been in the past? Do you think that trust can be cultural, that is some cultures are more trusting than others? How can firms engender trust to their customers? Is it freely given, or does it have to be earned.
Thisis my classmate reply:
I think that trust is more important than it used to be. There are so many things that could go wrong such as your personal information being exposed or losing your job you have worked so hard for. Information is easier to access more now than it has ever been with all of the social media sites. When you open up to someone, you are trusting them. Stores can buy your information and find things out about you such as your age, gender, if you are expecting a child, etc. without you even knowing. All you have to do is simply purchase one item from them or search on their website and provide your email address. Sometimes people are too quick to trust. Some people only want the best for themselves and are out to scam and hurt others.
I do think that Americans are less trusting today than they have been in the past because of what goes on in the world. For example, you used to be able to pick up a hitch hiker and give them a ride and now you hear so many stories about hitch hikers killing people or hijacking cars. So, it makes you uneasy to trust them.
I most definitely think that trust can be cultural. Not everyone believes the same thing. Religions and political beliefs are both different. There will always be conflict. Everyone has different beliefs. I do think there are some cultures that are more trusting than others such as people who are Christians. They believe that people change and can become renewed and some do, but some don’t.
I think Martha Rogers is correct, you must ultimately provide help and be flexible when talking to someone if you work in a call center. You must look out for their best interest (Rogers, n.d.). You must also take care of the situation quickly and not make the customer wait, or else they will feel as though they are wasting their time and become upset. This is what firms must do to gain customers trust. Trust is freely given given by the people who want to give it or feel as though they should give it, but firms and people must earn it. You cannot deceive someone and expect them to trust you again.

Explanation / Answer
Trust is definately time taking when it comes to business and customers. But now trusting closed ones has also become difficult. With the changing environment , mindsets of people are also changing and misuse of trust has become a common word being used. So in this emvironment it is correct that firms need to earn trust of their customers. Trust is cultural as people built their mindsets based on this culture. Tristing anyone has become a dangerous task now a days and people have to be very carefu; while doing so. Trust at workplace and trust with closed ones must not be compared as they are two opposite tasks.
