Week Four -Blended Learning Exercise Two 9 points Biended Learning Exercise Two-to be posted in the course room NLT that 11:59pm on Saturday, November 18th BLE/DQ 2 (Total:5 point Layout decisions affect a wide range of facilties, from factories, supermarkets, offices, department stores, and warehouses to retail malls, parking loes, parking garages and even home kitchens. Layout is also important in the design of some products such as the interiors of sutomobiles and the arrangement of components inside of computers and other electronic devices. For this blended exercise, please identify one facility and one process/product design and explain four or five key layout considerations for each. Please be specific in terms of your discussion touch points. It is permissible for you to use something from your final course project (if it fits) as one of the items you discuss. Your response needs to be in the 200 to 400 word range

Explanation / Answer

Parking Lot

Layout considerations are very important. For instance, in a parking lot the design should consider the parking angle. Sixty degree is the most commonly used because it permits easy entrance and backing off, though forty-five and ninety also applies. Drainage is also very important. Water trenches should be readily available and clear so that in case of rain people can freely walk to their parked vehicles. Where space is scarce. Painting and stripping are also important to demarcate the start and at the Minimum space requirements should also be considered. The standard size is 9 by 19 feet, though it may be reduced end of a single slot parking.

Office

Offices are critical in terms of the design and their look. This is because they represent the face of an organization or institution. In this case, its lay out should be top notch. For this to be true, the office format should be well chosen, according to the nature of the work done in an office. Also, it might be very necessary to consider having an appropriate and aesthetic coloring and black and white will communicate more officially. This is very important to increase the taste of look to the office. The spacing is also a very important consideration and congestion should be avoided. Ventilation is also important and the office should have good ventilation.

For an office, the number of people to occupy the office is very important. For an office to be used by more than one person, the space inside should be much enough to enable free movement. The occupant of the office is also considered. For a CEO, the office space must be big enough such that it can hold many seats enough to hold a board meeting, of not less than 10 people at least. The use of the office also matters. Offices used for waiting should be big whereas those for single person use could be made to be small. Flow of information should also be considered. Director’s office should be next to the CEO’s for easy communication.

For the store, the design format would be pretty the same, only for the nature of products to be store that might differ. The panting or coloring of the store will depend on the goods stored. For example, petroleum store would need a whitely painted one. The spacing needed in a store should be adequate, especially for the perishable products. The store should be made out of light materials. This is also true to the element of ventilation. In most cases, stores should not have closed walls.

Supermarket

For a supermarket, the aim is to maximize space usage per square meter. For this cause, the high-draw items should be arranged around the periphery of the store for easy access. Power items should be on both sides of aisle. Prominent locations should serve high-impulse and high-margin regions. The uppermost floors should have clothing and bedding's because they are not frequently purchased.

The design for garages is quite simpler compared to that of an office. Within a garage, adequate spacing is needed. This is because; big tools are used and would need ample space. Also, for the sake of avoiding suffocation, proper ventilation would be required to waft off the smell of noise. It would also need that a garage is painted light or white. This is for ease of identification and sorting of tools.
