Question
As a consultant for the First National Bank of Monroe, you have been asked to update the IPv4 addressing scheme for the bank's regional office as well as for its two smaller branches. Nodes added within the last 2 years use DHCP, but some of those installed long ago still have statically assigned IP addresses. The network has grown from 24 workstations and three servers to 48 workstations and six servers in that time, all of which are running Windows operating systems. Can you guess why some of the nodes would still have statically assigned IP addresses? describe what types of problems could result from having a mix of statically assigned and dynamically assigned addresses on the same network. Then describe the steps you would take to change the address assignment properties for a Windows 7 workstation. Is there a way you could modify the addressing properties of the workstations at each small office remotely, without having to visit those offices? Why or why not?Explanation / Answer
To Modiy the addressing poperties, as what Microsoft suggest is to edit registry and do the follwoing steps
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor (regedit) at your own risk.
If possible take back up the registry before you start editing it.
Other option is to use "netsh " command line utility/tool to remotely change IP settings on any Windows system.
You can use psexec to spwan a process . Psexec is a replacement of utilty telnet and it very ligtt weight .With this you can execute processes on other systems , interactively for applications that can be managed through conssole. More importantly you don't need to install any client software on remote systems manually
Command line to spawn a cmd.exe process on remote computer :
psexec.exe \hostname -u hostnamedministrator cmd.exe
Hostname is computer name of the system . It will ask of administrator password, enter that and start your assigned task as you are on that remote system only .Use netsh utility to do the required configuration>
