Explanation / Answer
Poor Culture: There have been several reports and stories on social media telling tales of cut throat competition among Uber’s employees
Workplace Cooperation: The senior management should establish and promote workplace cooperation amongst teams and employees to ensure that they work together for the customer and not against each other. Team building activities led by senior leadership themselves could be one solution.
Lack of strong and permanent leadership: Recently, there was a change in Uber’s leadership (CEO resignation). The old CEO, Travis Kalanick was accused of breach of contract, fraud and ignoring his fiduciary responsibilities
Transparency in board and operations: The functions of the senior management and the decisions of the board should be in alignment and they should work together towards the betterment of the entire organization rather than fighting against each other. The decision making and execution should be transparent so as to avoid any misunderstandings.
Employee Discrimination: Uber faces very frequent cases of gender discrimination, racial discrimination and sexual harassment out in the media
Workplace equality: Gender and racial equality should be encouraged and established in Uber. All the existing cases registered should be heard and trialed and strong equality principles should be established by the senior management and human resources department to ensure no such cases happen again
Employee Disengagement: Uber treats its drivers as contract employees/workers. Hence, no benefits are extended towards these contract employees. This is a major source of disengagement and dissatisfaction among its drivers
Participative workforce and leadership: Uber should treat its drivers as permanent employees, give them employee benefits to maintain healthy relations with them and also encourage participative decision making so that even drivers have a forum to voice their opinions, suggestions, problems and they feel that they are also an important stakeholder in Uber’s ecosystem
Regulatory breaches: Uber was accused of selecting certain passengers/users and denying trips to them. The legal case for the same is under progress but this has definitely tarnished Uber’s image among users
Fair Business Practices: Uber should stop using short cuts like choosing certain users and denying services to others to earn profits. They should think long term and maintain good relations with all customers alike to ensure long term sustainability
Legal Hassles: Uber has an ongoing legal case with Waymo that has sued Uber regarding the cutting edge self-driving technology
Fair Trail: Uber should cooperate to the best of its abilities to have a fair trial around the legal cases that are going on currently including the one with Waymo and pay its due if found guilty
