Question
Without mentioning your company’s name, describe your company’s health plan in pertinent detail, including dental, vision, pharmaceutical, etc. What are the options offered to your employees? Are there specific wellness discounts? How is your company dealing with the problem of rising health care costs? Are your particular plan options better, worse, or about the same in terms of cost and coverage than the plans offered on your state’s health care exchange? Would your company benefit by dropping coverage and paying the fine?
Explanation / Answer
The health plan my company offers is a standard one. In order to claim the benefit, 24 hour hospitalization is a must. Without, hospitalization, nothing is covered. Any tests or scans are not covered under it. There is no coverage for dental checkups or vision related illnesses. There are no options offered in terms of medical care. The only option is for the coverage. That can be increased or decreased based on the individual requirement. There is a yearly health check up which is provided. This yearly checkup covers blood tests for sugar, cholesterol, liver function, chest x-ray, TMT test and ultrasound. It doesn't cover eye test or dental check up. There are no wellness discounts.
The company is dealing with the healthcare costs by creating awareness about healthy living. They run a health challenge where the fittest of the employees get rewarded. In addition, my company keeps on changing the healthcare service provider.
The plans offered are more or less the same.
No, my company won't benefit by dropping coverage and paying fine.
