We often desire to cling to a notion that we have arrived at a belief, decision, opinion, etc. all on our own.

But this class is smarter than that! You are quite aware that you have been persuaded in the past and will be in the future. As a result, I want you to think of a time when you were persuaded. Why was the rhetor(s) successful in changing your mind? What persuasive techniques did s/he (they) use? How did s/he (they) deal with any “push-back” you may have had?

To persuade, the speaker often uses strong reasoning and tries to convince the listener by emphasizing the positive aspects of his argument.

Both influence and persuasion have a common objective of bringing about a change in a person’s behavior or actions, but persuasion is different from influence as persuasion requires use of certain level of communication such that the desired change is adopted by the other person.
