Technology has come a long way over the past two decades. What types of cybercrimes exist today that did not exist 20 years ago? Cybercrimes have risen so dramatically in recent years that they have seemingly replaced old-fashioned, organized crime.
There are many crimes that exist today which did not exist 20 years ago such as:
Identity theft
Stealing of sensitive data
Stealing of intellectual property
False Tax-Refund
and the list goes on.
People are more suspectible of being a victim of a cyber crime than a traditional crime because criminals who conduct cybercrimes are rarely in any phyical contact with the victim. They are not even at the same geographical location most of the times. However, the distance does not reduce the crime. The anonymity gives the cybercriminals an added advantage. They can hide from law in the plain sight due to their distances. Such factors help them commit crimes that can be of equal or greater magnitude than traditional crimes.
